Harquahala Mountain 03/16/08 : Britza and I decided to take the dogs for an easy Sunday drive and head west towards Tonapah. Harquahala Mountain Trail is considered an easy trail as it climbs from roughly 1600' to about 5500' at the peak. The drive is a series of switch backs conbined with a ledge road. Some of climbs will get you blood pumping because of how steep the grade is. We only made it up to about 4500' and had to turn around due to pretty heavy snow falling.

New River Canyon 12/08/07 : The plan for the day was to run the trail east to west and possibly encounter some water and mud. Once we headed north out of the Town of Cave Creek and neared Seven Springs, it became clear that we would in fact see water and mud. We were unable to complete the loop because we were unsure about one of the three water crossing. The water was only 2.5 to 3 feet deep, but had several submerged good size rocks. We then decided that it would be safer to turn around rather than attempt the crossing and return home with dry interiors.

Visit Jose's site for more great pictures and some video of the trail

Box Canyon with Hummer X Club of AZ on 08/12/07 : We started the day and met at the Fiesta Mall parking lot. 8 trucks in all, 4 H3's, 2 Jeeps, 1 Nissan Titan and me in my Discovery. I talked the group into running the trail for south to north instead of the opposite direction and that meant I was the lead. Our drive to Florence was uneventful and we made it without any hitches. At the trailhead, we all aired down and a change in running order was made because dust was a problem and we had one open top Jeep. The drive down Price Station road reminded me of San Francisco and the going was slow. We eventually made to the entrance to Box Canyon and we all switched to 4 low except for one truck. You got it, the Nissan Titan was only 2-wheel drive and we did not know it until we reached the canyon. The driver agreed to press forward and see what the trail was like. We only made it about 5 minutes in before we hit our first minor obstacle. No matter what we did, we could not get the Titan over it. After a 15 - 20 point turn, the Titan was headed back out the way we came in and now our group of 8 was a group of 7. Chris the lead driver was the first to attempt the most difficult section of the canyon and picked the wrong line for his wheelbase. He got high centered and required a yank backwards. With a line correction and good driving, all were through without further incident. The rest of day went well and we were off the trail by 1:30.

Hassayampa River & Stanton Ghost Town 03/25/07 : Just another Sunday with Biehn Family and their 2 Jeeps except I was alone (Britza out town) and my sister Lisa along with Amy came joined us. Once we aired down, up the river bed we went. All of driving like a bunch of kids who haven't seen sand and water in years. Today the canyon was full of people, Family's playing in the water, people watching people, and one guy panning for gold.

Once throught the canyon and up the little climb towards Rincon Road we were on our way. As we were headed for the turn off to Stanton, we were flagged down by an oncoming Nissan pick-up. The driver asked if we knew were the turn off was for Stanton. So now our group of 4 turned into a group of 5. All the times before I've been in this area, for some reason I've been unable to find the turn off for Stanton. Today was not the case.

BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A KO 285/75R-16 (32.8") : I finally talked myself into it. First I searched the forums (http://www.discoweb.org & http://www.expeditionexchange.com)every night for the last 2 months. Then I spoke with Bill @ Great Basin Rovers (http://www.greatbasinrovers.com/ 801-486-5046) and he reassured me that this size would not affect the truck in any way. Lastly, Discount Tire mounted 2 tires to check fitment prior to the sale. The new look will take some time getting use to.

Labor Day 2006 : This day started out as all of our weekends do. What do you want to do? Where do you want to go? First we packed up Sophia and Bella and headed north on I-17. We exited at Table Mesa Road and headed east. After crossing creek and letting dogs play in the water, we decided that this was as good as it was going to get and North we went. Our next stop was Bloody Basin Road. Turned out just to be a pit stop, because we noticed the thunder storms moving in up north. Back to I-17 and we decided that Sedona was going to be our choice for the day. There is no place like Sedona when the ground gets wet. Once in town, we headed towards Oak Creek Homestead.
